Who stole Victoria’s stockings?

Hey everyone!  I hope you are all well, apologies for not blogging in a while, I try to blog once a month, but I have been slack and not written anything since February, my blog was ready to go at Easter, but for some reason I never got round to activating it.

Summer is just around the corner and I have some exciting things planned over the next few months, in June I am doing a photo shoot abroad, this is a first for me and I’m really looking forward to it, the location is somewhere I’ve always wanted to go, and when a photographer that I follow announced a photographic tour there I took the opportunity to combine it with a short break, I’m really looking forward to it, I’m planning my outfits for the shoot (something I love to do, and always put a lot of thought into what I’m going to wear).

My blog this time is about the theft of some stockings……….

As my blog title asks “who stole Victoria’s stockings?”………..don’t worry none of my lovely clients would do this……I am referring to a fascinating story that I heard about Queen Victoria and the theft of her underwear.

“The boy Jones” Edward Jones was born in 1824 in Charlotte Street, London (which is a stones throw from my apartment).  At 5am on 14th December 1838 he was found in Buckingham Palace with items belonging to Queen Victoria, namely a regimental sword, 3 pairs of trousers, some foreign coins, a likeness of Queen Victoria and several pairs of the Queens underwear stuffed down his trousers!  It is documented that he was covered in bear grease and soot, which had led palace staff to think he had climbed down a chimney to enter the Palace!  Edward was acquitted after promising not to break into the palace again!

Edward was caught a further 3 times but he continued to stalk the Queen and was therefore deported to Brazil and Australia. He kept returning to England and eventually his brother persuaded him to go back to Australia.  It is reported he became the town cryer of Perth, WA.

He died in 1893 after falling from a bridge whilst intoxicated.

Footnote…….in my search to find a suitable photo header for this blog (and not being able to find anything I liked)…..I searched “Victorian porn”……well that really was an eye opener….a blog for another time I think!
